LESSER LIGHT

(“God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and stars.”  Gen. 1:16)

Who’s to say what is less, what is more?

God said, “Let there be light.”

More and less, for day and night.

Less is more, more or less.

We give more when we keep less.

We live more fully when less full.

We are more ourselves when less than others.

Who’s to say what is more, what is less?

A great lake rippled by a single pebble?

A German wall crumbled one blow at a time?

A Black woman staying in the front of the bus?

A mountain moved by a mole-hill faith?

Lesser lights illumine the vast darkness and

sailors find their way home with night still intact.

No self-righteous sun could ever do that.
